This is a wonderful bread for chocolate lovers. It is very pleasant to work with this dough and there is such amazing aroma wafting from your oven during the time it takes to bake, so it's very difficult to wait for that moment your bread will be ready.
Ingredients:
180 ml milk (warm)
2 teaspoons dry yeast
5-6 tablespoons sugar
55 g butter
85 g bittersweet or semisweet chocolate
0.25 teaspoon salt
1 large egg
280 g flour (this an approximate quantity, maybe you'll need more or less flour, it depends on its quality and humidity)
3 tablespoons cocoa powder
1 teaspoon instant coffee (optional)
1. First dissolve 1 spoon of sugar in the warm milk. Add the yeast and set aside in a warm place for 10 to 15 minutes.
2. Meanwhile melt the butter and chocolate over a pan of barely simmering water.(you can use a microwave) Stir occasionally, until the chocolate is melted and the mixture is smooth. Remove from heat.
3. Add the remaining sugar, the instant coffee (if using), the egg, vanilla, and salt to the yeast mixture.
4. Stir in half the flour and cocoa powder, then the melted butter and chocolate, then the remaining flour mixture. Knead the dough for about 5 minutes and let rise in a warm place for 1.5-2 hours.
5. Knead the rised dough and transfer it to the buttered pan. Let rise in a warm place for one hour.
6. Preheat the oven to 180ºC. Bake the bread for 35 to 40 minutes (this is an approximate time)
Note: You can add nuts or chopped chocolate into the dough before the last rising.
